Namentlich, aber auch inhaltlich hat sich Gearbox dabei wohl etwas von Tarantinos Inglourious Basterds inspirieren lassen. Statt auf vermeintliche 'realistische' Action und Grafik setzt der jüngste Teil basierend auf dem Trailer auf einer stilisierter Optik mit etwas überzeichneten Proportionen, einem entsprechenden Gewaltgrad und Humor. Man habe lange überlegt, wie man etwas Frische in das Subgenre der WW2-Shooter bringen könnte, erläutert Pitchford da den Stilwechsel.
